“The Trauma Code”Author Reveals Why There’s No Romance: “I Just Couldn’t Write It, Dreamed of a Genius Doctor Like Joo Ji-hoon
On the March 15 episode of JTBC’s Knowing Bros, internal medicine specialist Woo Chang-yoon, ENT specialist and “The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call” author Lee Nak-joon, and psychiatrist Oh Jin-seung appeared as guests.
During the show, the hosts and the three doctors discussed the accuracy of medical dramas. At one point, the hosts mentioned, “It was great that The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call didn’t have any romance.”
Lee Nak-joon explained, “The reason there’s no romance is simple: I just can’t write romantic stories. That’s why I didn’t include any in The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call.”
Woo Chang-yoon then brought up the almost supernatural abilities of the drama’s protagonist, Baek Kang-hyuk (played by Joo Ji-hoon). In response, Lee Nak-joon admitted, “I never intended to make the drama medically accurate,” making everyone burst into laughter.
Seo Jang-hoon commented, “The drama satisfies the audience’s desire to see patients fully recover,” to which Lee Nak-joon agreed, saying, “While writing, I kept thinking, It would be great if someone like Baek Kang-hyuk actually existed.”
He also explained why Baek Kang-hyuk was portrayed as a cold and aloof character, “A genius can’t have both incredible skills and a perfect personality.”
